This workshop provides a unique platform for postgraduate students and early career researchers from Philippine studies community to connect with fellow scholars, engage in meaningful research discussions, build networks and contribute to shaping the future of Philippine studies in Australia.

The workshop is hosted by The ANU Philippines Institute, in collaboration with the ANU Filipino Association (ANUFA), as an annual interdisciplinary workshop for students conducting Philippines-related research at the postgraduate level.

The day will consist of a mix of student presentations and interactive panels with Philippines studies experts. With the theme, Researching the Philippines in Australia, we aim to retrospectively examine past research, map the current landscape of scholars and their work, and explore future collaborative opportunities to advance Philippine studies. The workshop is designed to:

  • Provide an opportunity for students to share their research in a supportive environment
  • Learn about Philippines-related research being conducted by other students
  • Meet and network with students and scholars with similar interests
  • Learn from senior scholars about presenting, publishing and building a professional research career

The workshop will take place before the ANU Philippines Update Conference 2024 on 'Beyond Geopolitics: The Philippines in the New Marcos Era' (30-31 October), and we encourage students to stay and attend this free conference, too.
